Shiny, new Thai visas in hand, we left Penang having had our fill of curry and Chinese fish ball soup. The most convenient hopping place en route to our planned destination of Koh Lanta, western Thailand, was the famous resort island of Langkawi.
I'm not going to say much about it except for it's very touristy and unless you can afford a posh hotel with a private beach, you may want to go elsewhere. Langkawi does have the interesting aspect that many of the visitors are Muslim and so go swimming in their robes and even banana boating and jet-skiing fully covered. Well, the women do, the men can wear shorts.
Making the best of the tourist trap, my fearless lady took the opportunity to risk her life by parascending across the bay (narrowly missing some trees and a parked jetski on landing).
